An Introduction To DoubleDown.Digital Founder, Adam Alson
At 17-years-old, Adam Alson was already bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. In 1998, he noticed his hometown of Staten Island lacked an online business directory, so he set out to create one. Staten Island Now provided promotional and relevant contact information for local businesses, and more than 100 Staten Island businesses became paying members of the platform during the first year of business.
Around his 18th birthday, Adam discovered another one of his passions: entertainment. After realizing Island Records’ recording artists Local H–one of his favorite bands–did not have an official website, Adam took the initiative to create LocalH.com, which quickly became the fan destination-of-choice for all things Local H. When the site came to the attention of the band, they were so impressed with its traction they decided to dub it their official home on the web. Adam not only managed their site, but went on to design merchandise and other brand materials for the group.
In 2006, Adam transitioned into professional sports after accepting the position of online marketing manager for the NBA’s New Jersey Nets. Once onboard, Adam took on the challenge of completely revamping the Nets official site and online marketing strategies. Within his first year, Adam was recognized with the New Hire of the Year award by Nets CEO Brett Yormark. Adam’s work was later recognized by the NBA for setting best online marketing practices, which were shared with the rest of the league.
During his time with the Nets, Adam came in contact with NBA star Vince Carter. Carter, an 8-time NBA All-Star, Olympic Gold Medalist and NBA Slam Dunk Champion, also trusted in Adam to revamp his web presence, something Adam still currently manages.
In 2008, MGX Lab–a 360 degree marketing agency specializing in media and brand strategies for athletes and entertainers–recruited Adam to work with some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. Their client roster included Muhammad Ali, Tom Brady, Reggie Bush, Ladainian Tomlinson, Mark Teixeira, The Jonas Brothers, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, among others.
While with MGX, Adam went on to lead the design of Mohammad Ali’s official website, Ali.com, which earned two consecutive Webby nominations. He also led various other sites and branding projects for The Jonas Brothers, along with pop artists such as Demi Lovato, Jordin Sparks, Honor Society and Megan Martin, among others. After becoming fully immersed in The Jonas Brothers brand, Bayer Healthcare tapped Adam to help create the brand for Nick’s Simple Wins, which provided awareness for children with diabetes.
During his time with MGX, Adam also contributed to various foundation projects including Brad Pitt’s Make It Right, Matt Damon’s ONEXONE, as well as the Pelotonia Bike Tour for cancer research foundations.
In January 2011, Adam moved on from MGX and founded NiteTables, an online reservation platform for nightlife experiences. Launching with great anticipation in August of the same year, NiteTables quickly saw hundreds of venues across the United States joining the platform.
During this time, Adam was also asked to organize a concert and meet-and-greet event in New York City for then-budding YouTube sensation Austin Mahone. Once announced, Mahone sold out two shows in less than ten minutes. Austin has since gone on to record Billboard Top 100 hits with major recording artists Flo Rida, Mike Posner and RedOne.
In 2013, Adam brought his career full-circle when he founded DoubleDown.Digital, a brand marketing and innovation incubation firm. DoubleDown.Digital currently consults for world-renowned athletes, entertainers, brands and startups. Their clients include Delos Living, an innovative wellness real estate company recently recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative for their WELL Building Standard, as well as being responsible for the Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel and Casino’s Stay Well rooms, which focus on amenities that enhance customers’ health and well-being in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic and alternative-medicine advocate Deepak Chopra.
In April 2013, DoubleDown.Digital co-founded and launched iGoHD (igohd.com) in a joint venture. iGoHD pushes the envelope of live telepresence entertainment and offers a turnkey solution to premium content partners with a worldwide audience. iGoHD’s first broadcast, Live From Hollywood: The Backstreet Boys Celebration of 20 Years, was experienced and enjoyed by fans in 99 countries across the globe who purchased and shared this exclusive once-in-a-lifetime event, which created a social foot print that reached millions.
