Russell Powell of Pangaean Studios is an accomplished oil painter and creator of a unique handstamping technique.  His method is to create a portrait on his hand and then transfer the image to paper. Handstamping, which took over two and half years to refine, utilizes both color and black and white ink.

DoubleDown.Digital is pleased to announce Russell will be the first artist in their management division.  Having discovered Russell’s rare talent in early 2016, DoubleDown launched Russell’s gallery site, pangaeanstudios.gallery, which houses his original works and his web shop, pangaeanstudios.shop, which offers reprints, apparel and accessories.

Russell was proud to be featured recently on the cover of Content Magazine and in Ripley’s Odd is Art. Videos of his handstamping process have garnered millions of views on popular social media platforms and have been applauded by celebrities including Rohan Marley, Run DMC, and Cedric The Entertainer, amongst others.  At the 2016 Global Citizen Rally, Russell had the privilege of handstamping a portrait of Nelson Mandela on attendees, which was displayed on stage during the Eddie Vedder and Beyonce performance.

Russell’s commissions are created on mixed media paper, with the most popular size being 18 x 24.  His murals can also be seen on the ceilings and walls of homes throughout California.  Many clients have discovered his signature style on Instagram, directly purchasing his art from his daily posts.
